1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how the Saywell application ("App", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our language speaking practice tools, including pronunciation drills, level assessment, AI conversation practice, and progress tracking. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide Directly

Practice and profile inputs:

  • Onboarding choices such as practice goals, target languages, and daily practice preferences
  • Language level selections and assessment session results
  • Voice input during pronunciation drills and speaking exercises (processed for word-matching feedback)
  • Messages and prompts you submit through AI conversation features, where offered
  • Account or sign-in details if you use features that require authentication
  • Feedback or support messages you send to us

Note: Much of this information is processed and stored on your device. AI speaking coach features send specific practice data to Google Gemini only after you grant in-app permission, as described in Section 5.4. Other features may send data to our servers or service providers only as described in this Policy and in the App.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

Device information:

  • A device identifier where needed for analytics or security
  • Device model and manufacturer
  • Operating system version
  • App version

Usage analytics:

  • App launch events and session duration
  • Feature usage patterns (for example practice topics, languages, and session modes)
  • Crash reports and error logs
  • Performance metrics

2.3 Information We May Not Collect

Unless you provide it or a feature requires it, we do not aim to collect:

  • Government-issued identification numbers
  • Precise GPS location by default
  • Your contacts or address book
  • Photos or camera data, except when you explicitly use a feature that needs them
  • Microphone recordings stored on our servers by default — voice may be used on-device for drills; AI Live coach sends voice audio to Google Gemini only with your explicit in-app consent

3. How We Use Your Information

3.1 Primary purposes

Service delivery:

  • Deliver pronunciation drills, level assessment, and AI conversation practice
  • Track language progress, CEFR levels, practice streaks, and session history
  • Personalize practice based on your languages, topics, and level
  • Load remote practice content and updates where configured
  • Process subscriptions, credits, and premium features when offered

3.2 Analytics and improvement

  • Understand how the App is used in aggregate
  • Identify stability issues and popular features
  • Improve user experience and practice content

4. Data Storage and Security

4.1 Local storage

Your data on device:

  • Language progress, practice history, preferences, and level selections may be stored locally
  • A local database or secure preferences may hold session records and app settings
  • Bundled and cached practice sentence packs are stored in the App package or local cache
  • Data may persist until you delete it or uninstall the App

4.2 Security measures

  • We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information we process
  • Sensitive identifiers may use platform secure storage where applicable
  • Network communications should use HTTPS where supported

5. Third-Party Services

5.1 Firebase (Google)

Services that may be used:

  • Firebase Analytics
  • Firebase Authentication, if account features are enabled
  • Firebase Remote Config
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging, if notifications are enabled
  • Cloud Firestore and Cloud Functions, if cloud sync or backend features are enabled

5.2 Adapty

Services used:

  • In-app subscription, credit purchase, and paywall management

5.3 Sentry

Services used:

  • Error monitoring and performance signals

5.4 Google Gemini (AI speaking coach)

Saywell's AI speaking coach uses Google Gemini (Google LLC) to generate coaching replies and session feedback. Data is sent through our Firebase backend to Google; Google processes it under its own terms and privacy commitments.

What may be sent (only after you allow it in the App):

  • Voice audio — when you use Live coach mode
  • Speech transcripts — when you use Standard coach mode
  • Practice context — language, level, topic, and conversation transcript
  • Session metadata — session duration and related practice details

How we collect it: From your microphone, speech recognition, and in-session practice activity when you start or continue an AI speaking coach session.

Why we send it: To generate AI coaching responses and post-session evaluation feedback. We do not use this data for advertising.

Your permission: Before your first AI speaking coach session, the App shows a disclosure naming Google Gemini, listing the data above, and linking to this Privacy Policy. Nothing is sent to Google Gemini for the AI coach until you tap Allow and continue. If you choose Not now, AI coach features remain unavailable until you grant permission.

Other speech features: Pronunciation drills and on-device speech recognition may run locally without sending audio to Google Gemini. Text-to-speech may use platform services on your device.

5.5 Changes to AI providers

If we add or replace third-party AI providers, we will update this Privacy Policy and, where required, ask for your permission again in the App before sending data to a new provider.

6. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, delete, correct, or object to certain processing. Use in-App controls where available, or contact us using the email below. See the Support & Data Deletion page for deletion requests.

AI data sharing: You can decline third-party AI sharing when prompted and still use non-AI parts of the App. To withdraw consent after granting it, uninstall the App or contact us to request deletion of associated server-side data where applicable. Re-installing or clearing app data may prompt you for AI consent again.

7. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without appropriate parental consent as required by law.
