1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how the Splitwave application ("App", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our karaoke and cover studio on iPhone, iPad, and Android. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.

Splitwave does not require you to create an account with email, Apple Sign In, or Google Sign In. An anonymous identifier is created in the background to support AI stem separation, your AI minutes, subscriptions, and device records. You never see a sign-in screen.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide Directly

Songs, recordings, and studio content:

  • Audio files you import from Files, videos you pick from your camera roll (only the audio track is used), and songs you record in the App
  • Vocal takes you record over a song, and their trim, fade, and vocal effect settings
  • Video covers you film with the front camera when you turn on Video cover
  • Lyrics, lyric timing, chords, sections, setlists, and mixer settings you create
  • Feedback or support messages you send to us by email

AI stem separation: A song is uploaded only when you split it into stems. The uploaded file is used only to create the stems (vocals, drums, bass, and other instruments) and is deleted from our servers within about 24 hours. The stems are kept on our servers for up to 30 days so the App can download them again, and a copy is stored on your device.

Exports and video covers: When you export a mix, stems, or a video cover, the stems, takes, and video needed for that export are uploaded so our server can render the file. These uploads and the rendered file are deleted within about 24 hours.

On-device features: Playback, the mixer, lyrics, pitch and tempo changes, the metronome, recording, Auto Take Sync, Pitch Coach scoring, vocal effects, and trim / fade run on your device. Your takes, lyrics, and setlists stay on your device unless you export them. Audio and recordings are never used to train AI models.

2.2 Information from Device and Platform Services

When you use certain features, the App may access:

  • Microphone — to record vocal takes and songs and to show your live pitch while you sing
  • Camera — only when you turn on Video cover, to film you while you record a take
  • Files and photo library — to import the song or video you pick
  • Notifications — only if you tap "Notify me when ready", to tell you when a song has finished splitting
  • Device identifiers — an app-generated device identifier for anonymous authentication, AI minute quotas, abuse prevention, analytics, crash reporting, and subscription validation
  • App Store / Google Play billing records — processed by Apple or Google and validated through Adapty

Microphone, camera, and library access are used only for the features above. The App does not record in the background, and it does not scan, upload, or read other files or photos.

2.3 Information Collected Automatically

Device and app information:

  • Device model, operating system version, and app version
  • Anonymous Firebase user identifier used for background authentication, stem separation jobs, and AI minutes
  • App integrity attestations from Apple App Attest / DeviceCheck or Google Play Integrity, used to block abuse of the AI service
  • Approximate region derived from your IP address by our analytics provider

Usage analytics:

  • App launch events and session duration
  • Feature usage (for example songs split, takes recorded, exports, paywall views)
  • Crash reports and error logs
  • Performance metrics

2.4 No Tracking or Advertising Identifiers

Splitwave does not track you across apps and websites owned by other companies, does not show ads, and does not access the Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) on iOS or the advertising ID on Android. For this reason the App does not show an App Tracking Transparency prompt.

2.5 Information We Do Not Collect

  • Your name, email address, or phone number through in-app sign-up (there is no sign-in UI)
  • Precise GPS location
  • Your contacts or address book
  • Biometric identifiers or voice prints
  • Files, photos, or videos other than the ones you explicitly pick

3. How We Use Your Information

3.1 Primary purposes

  • Split the songs you choose into stems and render the mixes, stems, and video covers you export
  • Track your AI minutes, your free preview split, and automatic refunds of minutes for failed splits, tied to your anonymous identifier and device
  • Prevent abuse of the AI service with app integrity checks
  • Validate and restore Splitwave Pro subscriptions
  • Load remote configuration and feature flags
  • Send the "song ready" notification when you ask for it
  • Provide customer support when you contact us

3.2 Analytics and improvement

  • Understand aggregate App usage and stability
  • Diagnose crashes and fix bugs
  • Improve separation quality, speed, and reliability

4. Data Storage and Security

4.1 Local storage

  • Your songs, stems, takes, video covers, lyrics, setlists, and preferences are stored on your device
  • Files you export or share stay wherever you save them until you delete them
  • Data persists until you delete it in the App, uninstall the App, or reset your device

4.2 Cloud processing and storage

  • Songs uploaded for separation are sent over HTTPS to Firebase Cloud Storage and deleted within about 24 hours
  • Stems are kept in Firebase Cloud Storage for up to 30 days, then deleted automatically
  • Export uploads (stems, takes, video) and rendered exports are deleted within about 24 hours
  • Separation jobs, AI minute usage, device, and subscription-related records are stored in Firebase Cloud Firestore; finished job records are deleted after 30 days
  • Servers are located in the European Union (Firebase europe-west1)
  • We use reasonable technical and organizational measures, including app integrity checks, to protect information we process
  • Network communications use HTTPS

5. Third-Party Services

5.1 Firebase and Google Cloud

  • Firebase Analytics (without advertising identifiers)
  • Firebase Authentication (anonymous)
  • Firebase App Check (Apple App Attest / DeviceCheck, Google Play Integrity)
  • Firebase Remote Config
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging, only for the "song ready" notification you ask for
  • Cloud Functions, Cloud Firestore, and Cloud Storage for separation jobs, exports, AI minutes, device, and subscription records

5.2 AI stem separation provider

  • To split a song, a temporary private link to the uploaded file is sent to Replicate, which runs the open-source Demucs separation model
  • The audio is processed only to create your stems, under Replicate's API terms; it is not used to train models, and Replicate deletes prediction inputs and outputs automatically after a short retention period

5.3 Adapty

  • App Store and Google Play subscription management
  • Purchase history and entitlement validation tied to your store transaction records; advertising identifier collection is turned off

5.4 Sentry

  • Crash reporting and error monitoring

5.5 Apple and Google

  • App Store and Google Play process payments; Apple and Google receive transaction data according to their privacy policies

6. App Privacy Details

Our store privacy labels list the following categories. None of them are used to track you:

  • Audio data — songs you split and takes you export, processed only to create stems and exports
  • Photos or videos — video covers you export, processed only to render the video
  • User ID — anonymous identifier for app functionality, AI minutes, and analytics
  • Device ID — app-generated identifier for AI minute quotas, abuse prevention, and analytics
  • Purchases — collected via Adapty for subscription management
  • Coarse location — approximate region for analytics
  • Product interaction — collected for analytics
  • Crash data, performance data, and other diagnostic data — collected via analytics and Sentry

We do not collect contact info, precise location, or health data.

7. Your Rights and Choices

  • Manage microphone, camera, and notification permissions in iOS or Android Settings, or from Settings → Microphone & camera in the App
  • Use the demo songs, the mixer, lyrics, and recording without uploading anything
  • Use Settings → Delete my data in the App to remove your songs, takes, lyrics, and setlists from your device and every upload, stem, and export from our servers
  • Uninstall the App to remove local data from your device
  • Request deletion of any remaining server-side data — see our Support & Data Deletion page
  • Depending on your location, you may have additional rights to access, delete, or object to certain processing

8. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
